PosmC - Inducible Promoter

The osmCp1 promoter upregulates the osmC gene for the cytosolic peroxiredoxin, OsmC. The function of this peroxiredoxin is to protect the cell from oxidative stress by organic hydroperoxides, and it is activated by stress from osmotic pressure. The osmCp1 promoter is therefore stress-activated by transcription factors RcsB and NhaR. RcsB is a cytosolic regulator in the Rcs pathway that responds to stress on the plasma membrane, such as alteration of an outer membrane protein, by regulating capsular polysaccharide synthesis and vital cellular functions. NhaR responds to osmotic shock and high ionic osmolyte concentration. A region within the osmCp1 promoter of -191 b.p. before the transcription start site was selected for the binding of RcsB and NhaR to activate mRFP.
